I think your article is right on about how important it is to save the home from burning and how it lessens the environmental impact. There are many of us, with the development of highly effective and bio-degradable fire fighting foams that have recognized the possibility of homeowners to save their valuable property from wild fire from the outside of the home. When a fire is advancing, the homeowner now has the ability to spray down their home with foam, encapsulating it in a protective membrane that in most cases will allow the home and surrounding vegetation to remain standing after the fire.
I had a hose adapted spray bottle of foam several years ago – kept it on hand just in case – when our old truck spontaneously burst into flames while sitting under a group of pine trees. My first instinct was to grab the ABC fire extinguishers I had. I unloaded them on the fire only to have it burst into flames again. Fortunately, while I was doing that, my wife had called 911 and was rounding up the bottle of foam concentrate. I hooked it to the garden hose and put it out almost immediately – 20 seconds would not be an exaggeration. The first responders from the fire dept. 2 miles away just stood there and shook their heads. They were pretty amazed that I had put it out so easily. With so many people living out in the woods these days, it just makes sense for everyone to have some variation of one of these fire suppression options that I now offer as a business. I started it because so many people told me they wanted some of this foam that it just occured naturally. I took stock of the number of fires that have occured out here in our rural environment and am in awe that we haven’t seen the woods go up in flames.
Keep up the good work!
