A little about Vickie Pritchett and Chief Shane Ray:
Vickie Pritchett became involved in the fire service in 1997. Vickie currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department. Vickie served as the Community Development Liaison for the Town of Pleasant View and Executive Director of the Joint Economic & Community Development Board of Cheatham County at the time she began her service to the local volunteer fire department. During this time she was instrumental in bringing fire service officials, builders and developers, and elected officials together. This coordination resulted in a zero square foot fire sprinkler ordinance for the town in 2001, and county-wide in 2006.
Vickie’s dedication to the improvement of quality of life, passion for the community, and her ability to bring people together makes her the “spark plug” and advocate of fire sprinkler requirements at the local, state, and federal level. She has presented across the state of Tennessee and the nation. She has worked in Washington D.C. to promote fire protection issues and to highlight the differences that can be made by fire sprinklers and the legislation that requires them.
Vickie is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She is a Board member of Cumberland Region Tomorrow, former class member, President and Trustee of Leadership Cheatham County, Board member of the Fire & Life Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Board member for The Phoenix Society, Steering Committee member of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition and is a member of the NFPA and ICC.
Vickie currently serves as Project Manager for Fire Team USA, Facilitator of Common Voices, and Associate Director of Public Fire Protection with the National Fire Sprinkler Association.
Chief Shane Ray has served as the Fire Chief of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department since 1998, and is a proud member of the VCOS. The PVVFD responds from four stations, with approximately 30 volunteers and 20 support members. Their district covers 200 square miles, with a population of 23,000. The volunteers average over 1,500 responses per year.
Shane’s career with Pleasant View began in 1984. He also served with the Berea (KY) Fire Department while attending college at Eastern Kentucky University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Administration. After college, Shane served as an E-911 Dispatcher and EMT in Cheatham County, TN, while also serving as the Training Officer for PVVFD.
In 1994, Shane accepted a career fire fighter position with the K-25 Fire Department in Oak Ridge, TN, where he rose through the ranks to Shift Commander. While not on shift at K-25, Shane served as a volunteer with the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department, and was a “paid-on-call” fire fighter with the City of Clinton, TN. He then had the opportunity to move back to his Pleasant View home when he accepted a career position with Brentwood Fire & Rescue, where he later became a Lieutenant. It was during this time that he accepted the position of Fire Chief in Pleasant View.
In 2006, Shane left Brentwood, assuming his current position as Director of Public Fire Protection for the National Fire Sprinkler Association, and he remains the Fire Chief in Pleasant View.
